When you’re planning a baby shower the venue can be the biggest expense and quickly eat into your funds. If you need to plan a baby shower on a budget the first thing you will need to do is pick a venue that is cheap, or even free. Yes, it can be done. And no, it doesn’t have to look cheap. Even the most basic of rooms or spaces can be decorated to make it look more appealing and welcoming.

1. At Home
Your house is the most obvious place to host if you want to plan a baby shower on a budget. You can section off one room. Obviously, you will need to consider facilities and how many people you can fit into the space. But if you keep a small guest list this can work.
2. In The Garden
If you have a big enough garden, you can make it into the perfect baby shower space. Think green florals or the Secret Garden for a super cute theme! Add a marquee if you think the weather may turn. Spread big cushions and a few chairs around for people to lounge on. You can create a magical oasis with some well-placed fairy lights.
3. Friend’s House/Garden
If a friend or relative offers you their space to host your baby shower this could help you save some cash. Obviously offer to help with the preparation and clear up. And be very clear about their rules and expectations before you agree to anything. Don’t forget to get them a thank you gift for their generosity.
4. Library
Libraries are the most wonderful places, aren’t they? I mean free books!! What more could you want? Libraries often have rooms that can be hired out for a reasonable fee. You can pick up some baby books on your way out too.
5. Church
If you are an attendee, ask your church if they have a place where you could have your baby shower. They may have a hall or room available for hire.
6. Park
Pick a pretty park, and a quiet space within it, to host your baby shower. You could have a picnic and let everyone know to bring their own food for a low-key party. Make something special, like cakes, that can be enjoyed by everyone as a thank you for coming. Don’t forget the blankets.
7. Community Centre
Community centres are ideal as they have large spaces that can hold quite a few people. Great news if you have got your heart set on a big baby bash. Decorate to make the space feel more personalised and pretty.
8. Restaurant
Restaurants often have extra spaces for corporate events that can be hired out. If you want to take the hassle out of the whole food prep this could be a way to do it. This is probably the costliest of the options but all you need to do is turn up. Whilst you wouldn’t decorate the room in this instance there’s no reason why you can’t pop some personalised bits on the tables.
9. At The Beach
Fancy hearing the waves and the squark of the seagulls while you enjoy baby banter? Then the beach is the perfect place. It’s already picturesque so there’s no need to add to the budget with decorating. And you can get your guests to bring a dish or even their own food if you want a relaxed affair.
10. The Forest
Is there anything more magical than a forest or nature park? Forest themes make great nursery décor, but have you considered actually hosting your baby shower in a forest? You can make the forest your whole theme and send forest invitations and make themed food. So cute! Just like having your baby shower in a park or on the beach, the space is vast so you can invite all your nearest and dearest to celebrate with you.
11. Museum
Think back to your school trips to a museum and eating your packed lunch in a room with the other kids. These are rooms that can be hired out. Museums are such cool places, all that history under one roof. It’s pretty magical to think that you’ll be adding to that history by starting your baby’s adventure here too.
12. Pub/Bar
If you’re planning this on behalf of the mother-to-be, make sure they are comfortable with having alcohol served at their baby shower. Just like in restaurants, there will be rooms that you can hire that will be able to accommodate groups. Check whether you get any discounts on the food and what is included with the room hire.
13. Airbnb/Hire a House
Hear me out. Hiring a house may not be the first option you think of when you’re looking for cheap places to have a baby shower. Most Airbnb hosts don’t allow parties in their properties. However, this can be a low-cost option if the mother-to-be doesn’t want a traditional party but prefers a low-key gathering with a few close pals. And it’s a nice way to relax before the baby comes. Once you split the bills with everyone you may find that you’re actually saving money compared to having a party with more people.
14. Boat
Just like an Airbnb, you can split the cost across several people to keep the costs low. It will be great for the pictures and you can save on the costs of catering for a party and decorating a place. And nautical themes are so cute, just think of the invitations – “baby shower on a boat” …oh my!
15. Café/Tea Shop
Don’t want to host lots of people for a party? But do want to mark the occasion with a few friends? Book an afternoon tea at a lovely tea shop and have a good catchup about your baby’s plans. You could still fit in a few low-key games and have a giggle while you’re there.
16. Your Work Place
Have your work offered to throw you a baby shower? Or maybe you spotted a room that would be great for a party. There’s no harm in asking if you would be able to hire the space for a few hours. They may even let you have it for free. Make sure you follow any rules that may be in place and don’t get too rowdy.
There are many ways to enjoy a baby shower on a budget. Whether that’s catering yourself or making a lot of the décor and favours. Or even sharing the cost of a house for a weekend away. There are lots of ways to have a baby shower and the venue can be as flexible as your plans. Hopefully, these tips have given you some ideas for cheap places to have a baby shower. Now, you just need to choose the theme!
